Finding Our New Home
As we plan to start our big adventure from the Mediterranean it made sense that we purchased our yacht from there also. We considered Greece, Turkey, Spain and Croatia as possible start points but it really came down to making acquaintances with a trustworthy broker as this was such an unfamiliar excerise in buying a yacht. First day out looking was productive seeing many variations of the famed Bavaria brand as well as some others.
Jeanneau, Benneteau and Hanse also contenders. We liked the layout and design of the Bavaria so the next option to choose was length. 50′, 46′ or 44′?
The 44’s were just too small for a family of 4 plus dog, and the 50′ had two bunk cabins, a V-berth and two aft cabins along with 3 heads (shower/toilets) , so while we really wanted the extra beds, 4x extras were a bit much and we probably wouldnt use 3 bathrooms!.. Also various expences associated with sailing like marina and cruising fees along with maintenance are all alot more with each extra foot. So, we have choosen the Bavaria 46′ Cruiser. This one is called Polykandros an ancient name based on some Greek Islands… Polly for short?
